There is no mission outside the context of the Shema: to listen and to obey. God has far more creative ideas for your life than you could ever imagine.
The Gospel of Mark, written by Mark who served as Peter’s interpreter, can be understood as Peter’s testimony told through Mark’s eyes. While Peter was an activist and a man of action, this Gospel reflects those events through Mark’s perspective and interpretation.
Capernaum was Peter’s hometown, and one of the first recorded miracles connected to Peter was the healing of his mother-in-law. Peter was involved in a fishing business with the two brothers, James and John. Fishing was a prosperous industry at the time, employing many servants. It is likely that Peter owned a large home, one capable of hosting Jesus and all of His disciples.
38 And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” Mark 1:38 ESV
On the very first day, the entire town gathered at Peter’s house after hearing that Peter’s mother-in-law had been healed.
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Mathew 28:18-20 ESV
