Intro

• The importance of the Holy Spirit to hear the voice of God

1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-3

Recognizing God’s Voice

• GRATITUDE: Giving thanks to God after hearing His voice strengthens your relationship with Him and enables you to hear Him more clearly.

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

• 전두엽(the part of the brain behind the forehead) controls decision-making and all the actions your hands perform. This means every decision, whether small or large, and every action you take should align with the Word of God.

• Hear (Shema): Listen carefully with intention and obey Him.
  • Listening to God is the foundation of everything in this passage. It is at the center of our life and at the center of God's heart.
  • Scripture mentions listening and obeying God over 1,500 times.
• God's biggest complaint is that people don't listen to Him. The Bible commands us to be quick to listen and slow to speak.

For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the Lord; Isaiah 30:9 ESV

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; James 1:19 ESV

• Relationship comes first, then listening. Without a relationship with God, why would you want to listen to His voice when you don't even know what to listen for?
• We assume we know what God says. Assumption and presumption are dangerous.
• Psalm 19 says presumptuous sins lead to transgression.
