1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
3 So he told them this parable: 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Luke 15:1-7 ESV
→ The shepherd knows them by name. Every family has at least one sheep that is lost. God is searching for their hearts. Many times sheep have to be in the bad state for his shepherd to come and rescue them.
→ They don’t deliberately wander away, but they get distracted by other things in the relationship they have with its shepherd. When shepherd finds the lost sheep, they put them on their shoulder so that the lsot sheep can feel the heart beat of the shepherd.
→ Even though the performance was good, but not a son. God is looking for sons and daughters, not for servants, committed to grow family business.

In 1 Sam 23, Jonathan encourages and strengthen David by speaking life over him
Saul Pursues David
15 David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. 16 And Jonathan, Saul's son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.” 18 And the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went home. 1 Sam 23:15-18 ESV
In 1 Sam 23, it was Jonathan who encouraged David in distress. Jpwever in 1 Sam 30, it was himself who encouraged himself in the Lord. There are seasons in life, we are left with Jesus alone. Sometimes God keeps other people aay from us.
Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire 2 and taken captive the women and all[a] who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way. 3 And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep. 5 David's two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. 6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul,[b] each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

The process of dealing with discouragement inevitably involves with reflection, firm identities of who you are in Christ and who God is. From this foundation, the power and direction and all the other fruits that you need to navigate your way in life are produced like fruits of the tree, planted by the streams of living water. It never turns out to be a positive thing when you are dealing with the direction without knowing who you are and who God is.
