• Ephesians 4
• In Luke 10, Jesus shows that proclamation and demonstration come before “show and tell” teachings. This is how Jesus reveals the Truth, showing us who the Father is.

1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. 9 Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. Luke 10:1-12 ESV

What place should power have in our lives?

• Salvation: The old has passed away, and the new has come.
• Paul said to the Corinthian church that he came to them not in mere words, but a demonstration of power and of the Spirit.

To believe in the gospel means to believe in the supernatural. While your body may be in this world, the Bible says you’re seated with Jesus in Heaven.

• Jesus connects His own divinity to His work; to see the demonstration of the power and the Spirit.

36 do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” John 10:36-38 ESV

Why the focus on normalizing the supernatural?

• Because healing and deliverance were major themes in the life of Jesus. It was his normal response to pain and suffering. The everyday life and ministry of his disciples.

• Because the ministry of signs and wonders have played a major role in every sustainable gospel movement throughout church history.

  • In the first century, the number one reason people came to salvation was supernatural healing. The second reason was to cast out demons in normal christianity.

• The ministries of healing and deliverance provide such a strategic way to defeat Satan and overcome his kingdom

  14 Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the people marveled.  Luke 11:14 ESV

  Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

• Because miracles serve as ‘signs that make you wonder’ about God and the Kingdom that is now among us.

  Mark 16:20

  And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

  Acts 8:6–8

  And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city.

  So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

  Hebrews 2:3–4

  how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

• Because Jesus declared that supernatural ministry would become every believer’s ‘new normal’ under the influence of his Spirit’s anointing.

  

• In Jesus’ ministry

  • First coming: The Kingdom has come
  • In between: world, flesh, devil. The battlefield that’s not been surrendered at the feet of Jesus.
  • Second coming: The Kingdom is coming
